Jaromír Homolka was born in Jihlava, where he also graduated from the grammar school. In 1982, he completed his studies in architecture at Brno University of Technology and then worked as a designer at the Jihlava office of Stavoprojekt Brno until 1991. After the office was shut down, he founded the Penta studio, employing some of the staff of the former Jihlava State Design Institute (Státní projektový ústav). For example, Milan Blahut, a long-time employee of Stavoprojekt Jihlava, collaborated with Homolka on several projects. In the 1980s, Jaromír Homolka began to specialise in healthcare buildings, which he also pursued during his external postgraduate studies at Brno University of Technology, where he obtained his PhD. Healthcare buildings form a large part of his portfolio. He designed several buildings in the Jihlava Hospital complex and many other hospital pavilions in a number of locations from Karlovy Vary to Frýdek-Místek. While the hospital buildings from the 1990s were clearly inspired by postmodern architecture, Homolka's later projects were more sober in shape, often enriched with metal structures referencing high-tech architecture. In addition to healthcare buildings, Homolka's Penta studio, where the architect Martin Franěk has been working since 2008, is also engaged in the renovation of historic buildings, manufacturing buildings, and lookout towers.
